SOUTHPORT — Tony Award-winning actor James Naughton will be the guest of honor this week at the Pequot Library, leading a summer-long series of live performances inspired by iconic documents from United States history.

The Revolution Will Not Be Televised will take place at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10th, in the library’s auditorium. The event will occur during the opening reception of Unfinished Revolution: 250 Years of Marking American Independence, a summer exhibition featuring historic documents from the library’s Special Collections.

Naughton will be joined by a lineup of other performers, including Michael Tucker, Jill Eikenberry, Mia Dillon, and Nathan Anthony Hinton. The live events will feature performances, oration, debate, and conversations based on documents including the Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights, the Federalist Papers, the Emancipation Proclamation, and Frederick Douglass’s “What to the Slave Is the Fourth of July?”

“We’re ecstatic to see the results when these four performers hit the stage, illuminating history and giving us new insights into these foundational documents and writings,” said Peter van Heerden, executive director of the Pequot Library.

The performances will run through Sept. 25th. For more information on the introductory event, click here.
