WESTPORT — MoCA\CT has announced the three pianists who have been selected as finalists for its annual Heida Hermanns International Music Competition.

Matthew Figel, Juhee Lim, and Daria Podorozhnova have been selected for the competition, which will take place at 4 p.m. on Nov. 14th at the museum. At the live performance on this date, each pianist will debut a commissioned work by composer Samuel Adams. The winner of the competition will receive a cash prize of $20,000 and a solo recital engagement, while second place receives $10,000 and third place $5,000.

This year marks the 50th Heida Hermanns International Music Competition, which honors the legacy of the namesake pianist, teacher, and philanthropist. Designed as a way for emerging artists to gain recognition, connect with a global music community, and advance their careers, it is open to pianists between the ages of 18 and 35 who first make their submissions in an online preliminary round.

Figel, of the United States, is a Doctor of Musical Arts candidate at the Eastman School of Music. Lim, of Korea, is a Kovner Fellow at The Juilliard School. Podorozhnova, of Russia, is currently studying at the Manhattan School of Music and recently won second prize at the Olga Kern International Piano Competition.

“The caliber of this year’s finalists is exceptional, but what stands out most is the individuality behind their technique,” said Kristin Young, MoCA\CT Performing Arts Director. “Each artist brings a fresh perspective and a deeply personal connection to the repertoire, reminding us of the remarkable range and vitality of classical music. We are honored to showcase their talent and to provide a stage for artists poised to make their mark.”

Performances will be assessed by a panel of experienced pianists and educators who include Frederic Chiu, Steven Spooner, and Milana Strezeva. Tickets to attend the competition are $90 for general admission, $80 for seniors and MoCA\CT members, and $25 for students. For more information, click here.
