WESTPORT — Patti LuPone, veteran Broadway performer and three-time Tony Award winner, is slated to bring her solo show to the Westport Country Playhouse on June 15.
LuPone’s show, entitled “Don’t Monkey with Broadway,” will include reflections on her career as well as her interpretations of classic Broadway music.
The performance will take place at 8 p.m. Thursday, June 15, at the theater, 25 Powers Court. Tickets, on sale for $75, $150 and $250, can be reserved online by clicking here. Audience members are invited to a post-performance party, according to the theater’s announcement.
Proceeds from the show will support the non-profit playhouse.
LuPone won a third Tony Award for her performance in last year’s production of the Stephen Sondheim-George Furth musical, “Company.” Previously, she won Tonys for performances in the original Broadway production of “Evita” and the 2008 Broadway production of “Gypsy,” among the overall eight Tony Award nominations she has received.
She also has won two Grammy Awards and two Olivier Awards, and has appeared in numerous movie and television roles.
LuPone, “since being chosen by legendary director Harold Prince to play the title part in ‘Evita,’ just shortly after she graduated from Juilliard … has continued to thrill audiences, bring them to tears of joy or emotional empathy, and always make her work both indelible and completely fresh,” Mark Lamos, the playhouse artistic director, said in a publicity release for the show.
“Like the greatest stars, she brings all of her distinctive, one-of-a-kind self to whatever she does, yet she constantly remakes herself to fit the role or the song or the show,” Lamos added. “This promises to be an evening of powerhouse entertainment you’re likely never to forget.”
