WESTPORT — Applications are being accepted for the 2023 Joanne Woodward Internship Program at Westport Country Playhouse.

The program is designed for those aspiring to a career in the theater, giving interns the opportunity to work with the theater’s senior staff during the summer months.

The program honors Joanne Woodward, the award-winning actress, director and former playhouse artistic director, who is a longtime Westport resident.

The playhouse has sponsored interns since 1946, many of whom have gone on to successful careers in the theater. Among the alumni of the program is the late composer Stephen Sondheim.

The program, from May 27 through Aug. 12, allots $600 weekly stipends for those selected. Housing will be provided; interns will be assigned their own rooms, according to the playhouse. Transportation is the responsibility of the intern.

Application deadline is Friday, March 17. Click here for more information and an application

Internships this year are available in three fields: development, education, and equity, diversity and inclusion.

In addition to working in their respective departments, interns will attend weekly seminars featuring guest speakers, including playhouse staff members, visiting designers and artists, commercial producers and more, theater officials said.
