WESTPORT — Tony Kushner, the playwright, author and activist best known for his Pulitzer Prize-winning drama, “Angels in America,” will be hosted in a June 6 program at the Westport Country Playhouse.

Kushner, who will be joined in conversation with actress Mary-Louise Parker, will appear at 8 p.m. Thursday, June 6, at the playhouse, 25 Powers Court.

“Angels in America,” Kushner’s two-part drama exploring the impact of the AIDS epidemic, won a Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award in 1993, and a television adaptation of the play won an Emmy Award in 2004.

Parker played a lead role in the television version of the play.

Kushner also is known for the stage musical “Caroline, or Change,” which earned two Tony Award nominations, as well as for the screenplays he wrote for several Steven Spielberg movies, including “Munich,” “Lincoln,” “West Side Story” and “The Fabelmans,” which together earned him four Academy Award nominations.

His other honors include three Obie Awards, an Olivier Award, an Arts Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, a PEN/Laura Pels Award and a Spirit of Justice Award from the Gay and Lesbian Advocates and Defenders.

Parker, who won Emmy and Golden Globe awards for her portrayal of Harper Pitt in the television adaptation of “Angels in America,” also appeared in another film about the AIDS epidemic, “Longtime Companion.”

Among her stage roles, she has won two Tony Awards for Best Actress in the plays “Proof” and “The Sound Inside,” and was nominated for “Prelude to a Kiss” and “Reckless.”

Parker’s television credits include “Weeds,” for  which she was a Golden Globe Award winner and nominated for Emmy and SAG honors, and “The West Wing” and “The Robber Bride,” receiving Emmy nominations for both.

For her philanthropic work, Parker has been awarded the Woman of Vision Award from the David Lynch Association, the Sandra Day O Connor Award, the GLAAD Award, the Hetrick Martin Award and others.
