“Suite for Africa” concert by Matsiko World Orphan Choir, right, and Amina Figarova’s jazz sextet will be performed Sept, 19 at Bedford Middle School.

WESTPORT — A “Suite for Africa” concert blending the talents of teenage African singers and a jazz sextet will take place Thursday at Bedford Middle School.

The Matsiko World Orphan Choir, a group of 24 African teens completing an American tour, will perform traditional music and dance at the concert, in collaboration with the Amina Figarova Sextet. For more information about the groups’ performing partnership, click here

The concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, at the middle school, 88 North Ave. There is no admission charge thanks to an anonymous benefactor, according to organizers.

The evening’s musical program will include a performance of “Suite for Africa,” recorded by the choir and pianist/composer Figarova.

Matsiko World Orphan Choir performance proceeds and merchandise sales “go directly to support the organization’s worldwide educational programs  for orphaned children,” according to publicity for the concert. The group — its name means “hope” in Ugandan — was organized in 2008 under auspices of the nonprofit International Children’s Network.
