WESTPORT–Author Lori Miller Kase of Simsbury, Connecticut, will lead a two-part fiction-writing workshop for teens at The Westport Library on July 20 and 22. Geared toward both experienced and aspiring writers, this two-part interactive workshop will help participants generate ideas for new work—and offer inspiration to those who have short stories or novels in progress.
On day one of the workshop, teens will write to prompts designed to spark ideas and illustrate the essentials of writing fiction: plot, characters, setting and point of view.
Day two will be a workshop-style class in which students will receive feedback (from the instructor and one another) on their scenes.
“There’s nothing like writing prompts —and writing community—to spark creativity and help combat writers block,” says Kase. “Whether you are new to fiction-writing, or just need a little inspiration to get you back on track with your fiction project, this workshop is for you.”
Lori Miller Kase is an award-winning journalist, short-story writer, essayist and young adult author. Her debut novel, The Accident, was the YA finalist for the Tassy Walden Awards for New Voices in Children’s Literature.

Kase has taught creative writing to elementary school through high school students, and is an instructor at the Westport Writers’ Workshop. Her work has been featured in The New York Times, The Atlantic, and Literary Mama, among other publications, and she is the recipient of The Letter Review Prize for Short Fiction.
Signed copies of The Accident will be available for purchase after the workshop.
The workshop is a hands-on experience and space is extremely limited. Though there is no charge to attend, registration is required here.
