To the Editor:
The Westport Book Sale would like to send a heartfelt thank you to all of the volunteers, book donors and patrons who made last week’s Westport Library “Big Spring Book Sale” a huge success — one of our biggest indoor sales ever!
We are grateful for the scores of dedicated volunteers who commit their time, energy, and enthusiasm to processing the tens of thousands of books and other media our community generously donates each year, and to the scores more of volunteers who help set up and operate our four-day book sales. We would not be able to hold our book sales without you.
We’d like to add a shout out to the volunteers from M&T Bank, Westport Rotary and Sunrise Rotary, the Y’s Men, Staples High School’s SLOBs and SLOGs, and the National Charity League. Your help at this book sale was invaluable!
The proceeds from our book sales support our nonprofit’s dual mission — to provide employment and volunteer opportunities for adults with disabilities, while raising funds for the Westport Library.
Since opening the Westport Book Shop at 23 Jesup Road, we have provided over 10,500 hours of competitive employment and job training for more than a dozen adults with differing abilities, both at the shop and in our nascent eBay online sales operation, and we have contributed over $200,000 to the Westport Library.
The success of our mission is due in large part to the dedication and enthusiasm of our volunteers. Thank you for your support. With gratitude, on behalf of the Westport Book Sale team,
Jocelyn Barandiaran, president, Westport Book Sale Ventures

ALTHOUGH I COULD NOT BE IN WESTPORT THE DAY OF THE CLOSED MEETING WITH THE DOT I SHARED YOUR SORROW AS CITIZENS AND TAXPAYERS IN HAVING BEEN EXCLUDED FROM A DISCUSSION OF THE FATE OF A BELOVED CITY MONUMENT THROUGH WHICH EVERY CITIZEN IN THE PAST 150 YEARS HAS WALKED, RIDDEN OR BEEN CARRIED. FOR LIKE A GRANDFATHER NEARING THE END OF HIS DAYS< AN ANCIENT BRIDGE< ONCE GONE< WILL BE GONE FOREVER, WITH ALL THOSE WHO REMEMBER, SO LET US HONOR THE PAST WHILE WE CAN. LET US PETITION THE GOVERNOR TO PRESERVE CRIBARI AND IN DOING SO PRESERVE THE VALUES SHE REPRESENTS. WHO AMONG OUR LAWYERS WILL WRITE THIS PETITION AND DELIVER IT TO THE PLACE OF SIGNING? AND THEN WHO WILL TAKE IT TO THE GOVERNOR AND SAY< "FOR THOSE WHO WILL REMEMBER AND BE REMEMBERED THIS BRIDGE WILL SPAN THE YEARS
