WESTPORT — A New Britain man broke into the Wheels convenience store earlier this year and stole an ATM, police said.

Ethan Nieves, 22, was charged July 17 with third-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary, first-degree criminal mischief, conspiracy to commit first-degree criminal mischief, third-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny.

A burglary at Wheels, 786 Post Road East, was reported to police about 1:45 a.m. last Feb. 22, and officers dispatched to the scene found the store’s front door was propped open and the ATM was missing.

Police investigators used video-surveillance footage recorded at the scene, as well as “digital forensic” evidence and search warrants, to identify Ethan Nieves as the suspect, according to the report.

Nieves was arrested by Westport police while appearing  July 17 at state Superior Court in Stamford and formally charged. His was bond was set at $100,000 and he was held at court for arraignment later that day.
