WESTPORT — A New York driver rammed the rear of a State Police cruiser at the scene of a motor vehicle collision near Interstate 95’s southbound Exit 17 early Saturday.
The trooper dispatched to investigate the crash was outside the cruiser at the time it was rear-ended and was not injured, according to the report.
The incident took place shortly after 3 a.m. Saturday when a trooper from State Police Troop G in Bridgeport was sent to investigate a collision on I-95 near southbound Exit 17.
The cruiser was stopped in the highway’s left travel lane, with activated emergency lights, according to the State police report.
As the trooper was investigating the incident, a Kia Sorrento driven in the left southbound lane by Sonny Abdul-Hardy, 47, of Bronx, N.Y., failed to slow down and move to the right, striking the back of the cruiser, police said.
The trooper was not injured. Abdul-Hardy was evaluated at the scene for what appeared to be minor injuries, police said.
Both vehicles suffered heavy damage and were towed from the scene.
Abdul-Hardy was charged with failure to drive a reasonable distance apart resulting in a motor vehicle accident and failure to move over for emergency vehicles.
