WESTPORT — The musical “Footloose” will dance across the Coleytown Middle School stage in April, the spring production by Coleytown Company, the school’s theatrical troupe.
The show, featuring a student cast of sixth- through eighth-graders, will be performed at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 5-6, and at 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, April 6-7, at the school, 255 North Ave.
Tickets go on sale Friday, March 8, and can be reserved online in advance by clicking here.
The Coleytown production of “Footloose” is derived from the late-1990s Broadway musical, which in turn was based on the 1984 movie starring Kevin Bacon. Notable songs include “Let’s Hear It for the Boy,” “Almost Paradise” and the theme song, “Footloose.” In all, 18 songs will be performed by students, accompanied by a full orchestra.
The musical tells the story of Ren, a teen from Chicago who moves to a small, rural town where rock-and-roll music and dancing are banned. Ren, who loves to dance, makes it his mission to overturn the ban with a group of new friends.
Coleytown’s “Footloose” cast has been in daily rehearsals for the acting, singing and dancing demands of the two-act production.
“Footloose” also was performed at Coleytown in 2002, “and it was a sellout hit,” Ben Frimmer, the Coleytown Company director, said in a publicity release. “Twelve years later, we’re revisiting this piece with a full team of professional designers and our amazing choreographer [Aimee Turner] with five Broadway shows to her credit. I can’t wait to see this piece fully produced on our stage again,” he added.
Helping stage the production is Coleytown Company’s Tech Crew of seventh- and eighth-graders, who assist professionals in set building, painting, prop creation and costumes.
