WESTPORT — A day before clocks are set to “spring” ahead, the meteorological hands of time will dial back toward winter Friday evening and Saturday.

A “Winter Weather Advisory” has been issued for southwestern Connecticut as of 6 p.m. Friday through 10 a.m. Saturday by the National Weather Service.

Westport and the region may receive snowfall totaling as much as 5 to 6 inches by the time the storm moves out later Saturday, according to the forecast.

Rain is expected to start falling late Friday, changing over to a wintry mix and then all snow starting about 3 a.m. Saturday, the NWS predicts.

Accumulations could range from 3 to 6 inches across the region, with more snow in higher elevations.

The weather service warns overnight travel conditions will be hazardous because of the wintry precipitation as temperatures drop to a low of about 32 degrees.

Precipitation, expected to be mostly rain, will continue through early afternoon Saturday, as daytime high temperatures reach the low-40s, the NWS said.

Sunday heralds the start of Daylight Saving Time at 2 a.m.,  with partly sunny skies and temperatures rising to the high-40s.

The outlook for Monday and Tuesday, however, is much less bright, with the prospect of rain and light snow both days, according to the NWS.
