WESTPORT — “Mauritius” will be the March 13 presentation in the “Script in Hand” play-reading series at the Westport Country Playhouse.
The performance will take place at 7 p.m. Monday, March 13, at the theater, 25 Powers Court. For more information and to purchase $25 tickets online, click here.
The play, by Theresa Rebeck, focuses on two estranged half-sisters who discover, after their mother’s death, a book of rare stamps that may have great value for collectors, according to a publicity release from the playhouse.
“ ‘Mauritius’ is a terrific thriller — crackling with suspense and intrigue from the first page to the last,” Mark Shanahan, curator of the Script in Hand series, said in the statement.
“The script delivers a tightly paced tale filled with duplicitous and cunning characters, all while plumbing the depths of a long-simmering family conflict.”
Rebeck has written for the stage, where her plays produced on Broadway include, “Mauritius,” which starred F. Murray Abraham, and “Bernhardt/Hamlet.” She currently is working on a musical adaptation of “Working Girl,” with music and lyrics by Cyndi Lauper.
For television, she created the show business drama, “Smash,” and has written for “Canterbury’s Law,” “LA Law,” “NYPD Blue,” “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” and more.
In addition to several movie scripts, Rebeck has written three novels and a book of comedic essays.
