WESTPORT — A driver, whose car had stopped in the middle of an intersection last week after he apparently passed out, has been charged with driving under the influence, police said.

Brian Duvall, 42, of Trumbull, faces a charge of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol in connection with the Sept. 22 incident.

The incident took place shortly before 1:30 a.m. Sept. 22 when an officer on patrol noticed a car stopped in the middle of the intersection of Treadwell Avenue and Kings Highway South.

The driver — identified as Duvall — initially seemed to be asleep and appeared confused after being awakened, according to the report. An odor of alcohol was detected by the officer, who also reported that Duvall’s eyes were bloodshot and that he was struggling to speak coherently, police said.

Duvall was asked to take a field sobriety test, but was unable to perform the test to standard, police said. As a result, he was placed under arrest at the scene.

He was released after posting $500 bond and scheduled to be arraigned on the charge Sept. 30 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
