WESTPORT — A Redding man has been charged with larceny after he was paid $13,000 to plant trees on a resident’s property late last year, but failed to do so, police said.
Joseph Esposito Jr., 56, faces a charge of second-degree larceny in connection with the incident.
A town resident complained to police last November that Esposito was paid a $13,000 deposit for a tree-planting job, but never carried out the work and did not return the deposit despite numerous requests.
Esposito, during an interview with a police detective, confirmed that he had been paid the deposit to purchase the trees and planned to plant them as promised, according to the report.
However, police said, Esposito was unable to produce a receipt to prove that he had purchased trees for the job.
A warrant for his arrest was subsequently issued, and he turned himself in Feb. 15 at police headquarters.
He was released on a promise to appear in court and is scheduled to be arraigned on the charge Feb. 22 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
