

WESTPORT — A former star with the New York Knicks held court at a recent basketball clinic for some of the youngest players at the Westport Weston Family YMCA.
John Starks, an NBA All-Star while playing for the Knicks, met with with young hoopsters during a program organized by the Jr. Knicks Youth basketball clinic at the Y.
In addition to giving youngsters advice about the game, Starks signed autographs and posed for photos.
The event, planned in collaboration with the Westport Police Athletic League, was designed for players in kindergarten through eighth grade. The young players were provided guidance in basketball fundamentals such as running and transitioning drills, jumping and pivoting, ball handling while moving and shooting.
The clinic was part of the outreach sponsored by the “Knicks in the Community” program, which involves Knicks players, coaches, alumni, dancers and staff in various community activities.
The local Y, an affiliate of the Jr. Knicks, plans to host more Knicks training clinics and activities in the future.
