WESTPORT — Led by Sam Clachko’s 19 points and a triple double from Adam Udell, Staples boys basketball team defeated visiting Fairfield Warde 73-50 Tuesday night.
The Wreckers improved to 11-1 overall and 7-1 in FCIAC play, while Warde slipped to 9-3 and 6-2.
Clachko had four rebounds, four assists and five of Staples’ nine steals. Udell logged double figures hat-trick of sorts with 12 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Udell also was perfect from the floor, making all five of his field goal attempts, including a 3-pointer, and was 1-for-2 from the foul line.
Staples generated plenty of offense early, posting 23 points in each of the first two quarters to build a commanding 46-21 halftime lead.
Matty Corrigan finished with a dozen points along with a pair of steals and a block. Dhilan Lowman dropped in 11 points. Charlie Bowman had nine points and four rebounds. Mason Tobias added seven points, three rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal.
The Wreckers hit nine 3-pointers with Lowman and Clachko each connecting a trio of times from downtown. Staples out-rebounded the Mustangs 27-15 and compiled 20 assists.
Staples aims to maintain momentum at another home tilt Thursday when Bridgeport Central (7-5, 4-4 in conference play) visits for a 7 p.m. tip. (Game schedules are subject to change; click for the latest CIAC updates.)
