DARIEN — The Staples High girls’ basketball team spread out the scoring and played well defensively en route to its first victory of the season, a 37-27 victory at Darien on Tuesday.
The Wreckers led 9-7 after the first quarter and built a 21-13 halftime lead. The Blue Wave climbed to within four at 27-23 through three quarters before Staples pulled away in the fourth.
Freya Harvey led the Wreckers with eight points and Emma Asiel and Sarah VonDohlen both scored six.
Sofia Martin, Ella Harrington and Victoria Emmert all contributed four points, Jaden Mello chipped in with three and Scarlett Siegel added two in the triumph.
Staples (1-4) is home to face 4-1 Ridgefield on Friday at 7 p.m.
