WESTPORT — The Staples High baseball team improved to 6-3 on the season after beating Stamford, 7-3, Monday.

The victory came after a 5-1 road win over Norwalk last Friday, the team’s second win over the Bears this campaign.

In that game, Kai Nee started and pitched five dominant innings — five hitless, scoreless frames — allowing five walks and striking out eight along the way.

Ben Cukier had an RBI triple and Jack Farnen added a solo home run in the Norwalk victory.

In Monday’s home win over Stamford,  pitcher Mark Kelly and the Wreckers got plenty of run support from the offense, which was sparked by a Jules Cicero two-run double.

The Wreckers trailed 2-1 before plating five runs in the third to take the lead for good.

Staples is scheduled to host Darien at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. (Game schedules are subject to change; click for the latest updates.Andy Hutchison has been covering school sports — including Staples athletics — as well as news and feature stories in Fairfield County, since the 1990s.
