WESTPORT — Matched against a team with just one regulation loss in FCIAC play, Fairfield Ludlowe, the Staples field hockey team turned Monday’s game into yet another mismatch.

The Wreckers capped off a dominant regular season with a 9-1 triumph over the visiting Falcons in the finale.

Alex Hackett, Emma Larit, Sofia Fidalgo and Tyla Ozgen all had two goals and Mary Stevens also scored.

Staples, the top seed in the FCIAC, scored eight or more goals 10 times on the way to a 14-0 record in conference play this fall.

Coach Ian Tapsall’s Wreckers will host an FCIAC Tournament quarterfinal game on Thursday (opponent and time to be announced).

The tourney semifinals and finals will be held at Wilton High, with two semifinal games Saturday at 3 and 5 p.m. The championship is set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29. (Game schedules are subject to change; click for the latest updates.)
