MILFORD — The Staples High hockey team rallied for a thrilling 4-3 overtime win over the Southington-Coginchaug-Westbrook co-op Wednesday at Milford Ice Pavilion.
It was the Wreckers’ second OT victory of the campaign, improving to a 5-7 overall.
Jameson Russell ended the game, assisted by Felix Haug (his second setup of the night), with the winning goal early in the extra stanza.
Harry Goodburn scored midway through the third period to tie things up and force overtime.
Cooper Paul and Shane Power also scored, and Goodburn registered an assist.
Goaltender Mason Mountain made 32 saves, including some timely and crucial stops.
The Wreckers were coming off a 5-1 loss to New Milford, also in Milford, last Saturday. Russell was assisted by Trey Wilson, and Mountain kicked aside 43 shots.
Staples will host Brien McMahon-Norwalk at 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29, in Milford. (Game schedules are subject to change; click for the latest CIAC updates.)
