DARIEN — With a whopping 30 steals, Staples girls basketball team pulled away for a 58-33 win at Darien on Friday night. 

The Wreckers bounced back from a 60-25 loss at Stamford on Tuesday and improved to 5-5 overall for the season, and 4-1 in FCIAC action.

Reese Rein scored nine points and had four rebounds, five assists and a trio of steals. Five Wreckers — Freya Harvey, Chloe Smith, Addison Talbott, Marley Belzer and Sam Selig — registered eight points in a balanced scoring attack.

Harvey had four rebounds and led the way with eight steals. Smith grabbed 10 rebounds and had five steals. Talbott grabbed two rebounds and came away with three steals, and Selig had two takeaways.

The Wreckers led 11-7 after one quarter of play, 29-17 at the half and were ahead 39-30 going into the fourth before putting the game away by outscoring the Blue Wave 19-3 in the final stanza.

Staples will host Greenwich at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The Cardinals carry an unbeaten mark of 10-0 overall and 5-0 in conference play. (Game schedules are subject to change; click for the latest CIAC updates.)
