WESTPORT — The Staples High girls soccer team opened FCIAC Tournament action with a win Thursday. 

The No. 2 Wreckers doubled up visiting Trumbull, ranked No. 7, with a 4-2 victory in the quarterfinals.

Neva Mermegan, Evelyn Chudowsky, Annabel Edwards and Leigh Foran all found the back of the net. Natalie Chudowsky had two assists, and Coco Crombie and Evelyn Chudowsky also set up goals.

The Wreckers will take on No. 6 Darien in the semifinals at neutral site New Canaan High at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30. The Wreckers blanked Darien 4-0 during the regular season. Darien upset No. 3 Greenwich 2-0. 

The winner will face either top-seed St. Joseph’s of Trumbull or No. 5 Ridgefield in the Nov. 2 finals, back at New Canaan, starting at 7 p.m. (Game schedules are subject to change; click for the latest CIAC updates.)
