WESTPORT — Staples girls golf team teed off the new season with road wins over Darien and St. Joseph of Trumbull April 9 and 10.

Then, after spring break, returned to the courses and continued winning with a trio of home matches in as many days at Longshore Golf Course.

Staples beat St. Joe’s by 39 strokes April 22; dropped a one-stroke heart-breaker to Darien the next day, and then rebounded with a 59-stroke win over Fairfield Warde on Thursday.

The Wreckers are ranked fourth in the state for Division I squads behind Trumbull, New Canaan and Darien, thanks to balanced scoring and medalist honors in each match to date.

Eliza Wadley and Rachel Pontoriero each posted the lowest individual score and medaled in two matches, and Lauren Clementi was medalist versus Warde while also logging her third birdie of the season.

Varsity golfers will host Wilton, Danbury and Ridgefield the week of April 28, beginning with Monday’s 3 p.m. match with Wilton. The JV squad kicks off its season next week at Fairfield/Ludlowe. (Game schedules are subject to change; click for the latest CIAC updates.)
