WESTPORT — The grand opening of the “American Colors by Henry Lehr” clothing store May 1 marks a revival of Henry Lehr brand name in Westport.

A Henry Lehr clothing store was a retail mainstay downtown for four decades before closing in 2014.

“American Colors by Henry Lehr,” which opened late last year at 66 Post Road East, is owned by Westport native Alex Lehr, whose parents operated the former Henry Lehr store on Main Street.

The new American Colors by Henry Lehr store, the brand’s flagship, is “my way of reconnecting with the loyal customers who have supported the Henry Lehr brand for decades and introducing our unique apparel and accessories to the new wave of residents who have moved to Connecticut in recent years,” Alex Lehr said in a statement announcing the store’s opening.

A grand opening for the store is planned 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 1.

Alex Lehr imports materials from Japan, then designs and manufactures his collection in New Jersey, producing limited-edition cuttings and custom pieces, according to a publicity statement.

American Colors has partnered with various brands to offer merchandise found only in the Westport store. Among the store’s offerings are Old Stud handmade belts, a brand that Lehr acquired from a friend in Los Angeles, now made in Norwalk.

It also plans to offer a made-to-measure shirt program in collaboration with a family-owned business in New Jersey, allowing customers to customize every detail of a shirt.

Trunk shows are planned throughout the year to showcase select brands and their products.

“Our goal is to offer high-quality, bespoke pieces that cater to our customers’ personal styles,” Lehr said.

American Colors by Henry Lehr, 66 Post Road East, is open daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 203-293-4701 or email info@acbyhenrylehr.com.
