The Staples High girls basketball team defeated visiting Wilton 56-20 Tuesday, the team’s third win in its last four games — and best game of the campaign, Coach Paco Fabian said.

“Out defense really clicked and we played great as a team,” said Fabian, whose Wreckers got 13 points from Scarlett Siegel, 12 from Freya Harvey and 11 from Sarah VonDohlen.

The Wreckers beat Westhill 56-32 on Jan. 24 and Harding 62-18 on Jan. 26 and bounced back from a 52-16 loss to Fairfield Ludlowe on Jan. 27.

Staples is home to take on Brien McMahon at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, the team’s Senior Night. Siegel, Jaden Mello, Tori Emmert and Claire Sandhaus will be recognized.
