WESTPORT – In a critical contest to determine seeding in the FCIAC tournament, the Stamford Knights trounced the Staples Wreckers, 39-27 on Tuesday night. The Knights held the lead the entire game as the Wreckers struggled to maintain the momentum of their win against Trumbull.
Stamford came out of the gate quickly with a strong defensive effort, holding Staples to merely two points in the first quarter.
Senior captain McKenzie Didio led the Wreckers with eleven points. Stamford’s controlling defense and high energy offense forced mistakes from Staples, seized second chance rebounds and took advantage of fast transition plays.
Prior to the game, there was a five team logjam for the final three spots in the conference tournament. The 6-6 Wreckers will look to rebound with a win over Bridgeport Central at home on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
