RIDGEFIELD — With their FCIAC playoff standings set in stone, the Staples and Ridgefield boys basketball teams squared off in Wednesday’s regular season finale with only Ridgefield’s unbeaten-in-conference mark on the line.
Unbeaten no more.
The Wreckers defeated the host Tigers 81-69 to conclude the regular slate with a record of 17-3 overall and 13-2 in conference action. Ridgefield dropped to 16-4 (14-1).
Mason Tobias scored 21 points and had eight rebounds and three assists; Dhilan Lowman scored 20 points and had two rebounds and three steals, and Matty Corrigan racked up 19 points, four rebounds, two blocks and a steal.
Adam Udell added 10 points, 11 assists, five rebounds and one steal, and Austin Heyer tacked on seven points, seven assists and four rebounds.
Ridgefield is the top seed and Staples is No. 2 in the FCIAC tourney, which tips off this weekend.
The Wreckers will take on No. 7 Wilton at neutral site Fairfield Warde at 2 p.m. Saturday, while Ridgefield draws No. 8 Stamford at 6.
All of the quarterfinals will be held at Warde. The other matchups: No. 3 Fairfield Ludlowe vs. No. 6 New Canaan at noon and No. 5 Warde vs. No. 4 Greenwich at 4 p.m.
The semis will take place in Wilton on Monday with the finals set for 7: 30 p.m. Wednesday at Fairfield University.
Then it’s on to the state tournament, where Staples is ranked No. 4 in Division I.
