WESTPORT — Ethan Cukier’s first varsity goal ever gave the Staples boys soccer team a 1-0 edge over Stamford, with 20 minutes to play Monday at Wakeman Field.

His second one, with 1:29 left, iced the match. The Wreckers’ win upped their record to 4-5-1. They have two more matches this week: Wednesday vs. Bridgeport Central, and Friday against St. Joseph. Both are at Wakeman, at 4 p.m.

Cukier’s first strike came after he picked off a poor clearance, on a solo effort. The second was a header from close range, following a long free kick from Alex Laskin. Nick Sikorski earned the shutout in goal.
