WESTPORT — Playing the first of three back-to-back games scheduled this week, the Staples baseball team got its bats going Monday.
The Wreckers defeated visiting New Canaan 13-6 behind Cooper Brundige’s 4-for-4 effort. Brundige had two doubles and two singles along with three runs batted in and a pair of runs scored.
Andrew Oppenheimer went 3-for-3 with a pair of runs batted in and three runs scored. Rhys Jamali hit a solo homer as part of Stapels’ 12-hit barrage.

Staples trailed 4-1 in the third inning, but scored the next 12 runs with two in the bottom of the third, one in the fourth, two in the fifth to take the lead and seven in the sixth to put the game out of reach.
Leadoff batter Luke Oakley had a hit and scored twice; Jack Farnen collected two hits, an RBI and run scored; and Noah Saed added a double, RBI and run scored.
Staples was coming off a 10-0 win over Norwalk and has scored double digits in all three of its wins — including a 12-0 victory over Greenwich. The Wreckers are set to visit Ridgefield at 2 p.m. Tuesday. (Game schedules are subject to change; click for the latest updates.)
