WESTPORT — Andrew Maskoff, a 17-year-old Westport pianist, will perform later this month at Carnegie Hall in New York City after winning his age category in the recent International Musical Life Foundation Competition.
Maskoff, a Staples High School student, is scheduled to perform at 7:30 p.m. April 30 in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. He will perform Beethoven’s Sonata in B Flat Major Opus 22 I allegro con brio.
He was selected best in the International Musical Life Competition’s category for musicians 15 to 18 years old, which included competitors from the U.S., Canada and Europe. He auditioned for the event March 2.
Maskoff’s upcoming Carnegie Hall performance, however, is not the first time the young musician has appeared at the renowned music venue. It will mark the fifth time he has performed there after winning other piano competitions, according to the Musical Life Foundation.
Most recently, he also won the American Chamber Orchestra concerto competition and will perform with American Chamber Orchestra as a soloist in June.
Maskoff started playing piano at 5 year old, studying with teacher/pianist Tatiana Pikayzen.
His other musical interests include composing, primarily for choir and chamber orchestra, and conducting.
