WESTPORT — Staples advanced in the state girls soccer team tournament yesterday, with a 3-2 win over Norwich Free Academy.
Fifteen minutes into the first half, Gabi deBrito passed to Evelyn Chudowsky, who scored the Wrecker’s first goal.
Moments later, Chudowsky passed to Katharine Shackelford, whose successful shot made the score 2-0 Staples.
The offensive barrage did not let up, as, 21 minutes into play, Ryan Lapatine passed to Izzy Ricks for the third unanswered goal.
Norwich, however, wasn’t giving up. With six minutes left in the half, Norwich took a blistering shot that was deftly saved Cami Kolek. With the seconds ticking down, Norwich’s next shot scooted past Kolek for their first goal.
At the half, the score stood at 3-1 Staples.
In the second half, Mia Didio took over as goalkeeper. She did a terrific job, blocking all but one shot. NFA’s defense tightened up and did not allow another Staples goal.

Final: Staples 3, Norwich Free Academy 2.
The Wreckers next face Darien today at home at 2 p.m.
