NORWALK — Play was fast Friday afternoon as the Staples boys soccer team took on Brien McMahon at small, narrow Pride Field.

The hosts notched the only goal of the game, late in the first half, to win the match 1-0 over Staples. Justin Rich rifled his shot in from the left side to the far corner.

The Wreckers’ best chances came on shots by Will Murray and sophomore Adrian Rodriguez. Jack D’Amore — also a 10th grader — made several good saves in goal.

Staples is now 1-1-0. They face always-tough Norwalk High at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at West Rocks Middle School. (Game schedules are subject to change; click for the latest updates.)
