WESTPORT — Both Staples tennis teams play for state championship title Thursday, after winning their semifinal matches Wednesday.

The boys and girls each face teams from FCIAC rival Greenwich in their title matches.

In their CIAC Class LL semifinal match Wednesday, the No. 5 Wreckers boys defeated top-seed Fairfield Prep 4-3 in Fairfield as Mattie Guardarrama finished off the team win with an ace to conclude a win at first doubles. 

The No. 11 Staples girls went on the road for their CIAC Class LL semifinal and topped No. 2 South Windsor 6-1.

Their Greenwich foes are formidable — the boys are the No. 2 team in state standings and the girls are ranked No. 1.

Both of Thursday’s championship matches, weather permitting, will be played at Wilton High — the boys take the court at 1 p.m. followed by the girls at 3:30 p.m.
