WESTPORT–Lee Goldstein, Westport Board of Education Chair, won the Democratic Party endorsement for Connecticut State Representative of the 136th District, beating RTM member Matthew Mandell. The tally, by a subset of members of the Democratic Town Committee taken last night at Town Hall, was 38 to 10.

In a statement, Goldstein said she will be proud to fight for and represent Westport in the Connecticut General Assembly, “for this vibrant community.” Her priorities are schools, infrastructure, the environment, and a state budget that “reflects the values and pressures facing Connecticut residents and towns.”

Goldstein said that, in light of “federal hostility,” she will support reproductive rights, gun control, and civil liberties.

Mandell told Westport Journal that “the process allows for a primary by petition. I will be meeting with the registrar of voters today.”
