WESTPORT–State voting rules mandate that primary voters be affiliated with their party for at least three months.

With primary elections on August 11, 2026, the deadline for changing party affiliation is tomorrow.

About 40% of Westport voters are unaffiliated–and thus unable to vote in either the Democratic or Republican primary. Only voters registered in a party can vote in the party’s primaries.

Both registered Democrats and registered Republicans will have the opportunity to vote for their preferred candidates. Primary winners will represent their political party in the November general elections.

If you want to vote in an August primary, and need to change your party affiliation, you must do so no later than tomorrow, Monday, May 11, 2026.
