WESTPORT — Lock your home. Lock your car. Secure your valuables.

That warning from police — issued numerous times since the onset of the COVID pandemic — was sounded again Monday with an upsurge in attempts to steal and break into vehicles reported in Westport, as well as across Fairfield County, last weekend.

There was no information immediately available about the number of local incidents.

In urging heightened vigilance, police officials’ statement read, in part: “Please lock your homes and vehicles, utilize alarm and surveillance systems and report any suspicious behavior …” Report emergencies by calling 9-1-1. The Police Department’s general phone number is 203-341-6000.
