WESTPORT–Two teenagers were arrested and charged with stealing a 2018 Mazda CX-5 from the Greens Farms Railroad Station and crashing it into the concrete bridge and guardrail on Beachside Avenue at Sasco Creek Road yesterday, police said.

Westport police reported to the scene when the Fairfield Police Department asked for help with the crash, which occurred at the border between the towns.

Witnesses told police the car was traveling east at a high rate of speed about 11 a.m. when the driver failed to navigate a curve. Based on eyewitness accounts of two people emerging from the car and walking away, police arrested Jennya Lopez, 19, of Stamford, and a 17-year-old juvenile.

Further investigation showed that the car had been stolen from the train station. The theft had not yet been discovered or reported, police said.

“The car had reportedly been left by the owner with a spare key fob inside of it,” the police said.

Lopez, who was suspected of being the operator at the time of the crash, was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle (first offense), conspiracy to commit larceny of a vehicle, failure to drive in proper lane and operating a motor vehicle without a license. Lopez was unable to post $5,000 bond and was arraigned this morning. The juvenile suspect was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle and conspiracy to commit larceny of a vehicle via summons and was released to a parent.
