WESTPORT — Three people were hospitalized after two trucks were heavily damaged in a Thursday morning crash on Roseville Road, an emergency that required firefighters to extricate one person from the wreck and stop a diesel fuel leak.

Fire crews were dispatched to the collision scene on Roseville Road, near Colony Road, about 6:15 a.m. Thursday.

At the scene, a “roll-off” transport truck was flipped on its side, and an occupant was trapped in the other, smaller utility truck that suffered heavy front-end damage, according to a report by Assistant Fire Chief Brian Meadows.

After stabilizing the smaller truck, firefighters used a battery-powered extrication tool to free the trapped occupant. The larger truck that had rolled onto its side also was stabilized by fire crews.

Both trucks were heavily damaged in the accident.

Meanwhile, other firefighters stopped the diesel fuel leak, and initiated cleanup later overseen by a crew sent to the scene by the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

All five occupants of the two trucks were evaluated at the scene by Westport Volunteer Emergency Medical Service personnel, and three were transported to a hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries. Their conditions were not immediately available.

Roseville Road was closed for about six hours during emergency operations and cleanup, Police were also on scene to begin investigating the accident.

Engines 2, 5 and 6, Rescue 3 and the fire shift commander were all deployed over the course of the operation.
