WESTPORT — Flames erupting from a Hillspoint Road home’s roof Saturday night were extinguished by firefighters battling the blaze from inside and outside the large structure.
Firefighters were alerted to the incident — called in as a chimney fire — about 7:30 p.m. Saturday at 272 Hillspoint Road.
The first firefighters arriving at the scene reported flames were flaring from the roof.
Four engines, a ladder truck and the shift commander were initially dispatched to the scene, where the blaze was attacked from both the home’s exterior and interior, according to the report from Assistant Chief Matthew Cohen.
As firefighters gained access to the roof via the ladder truck, crews inside encountered smoke on the dwelling’s second floor.

Additional engines were dispatched, and provided water supply and backup to crews already on scene.
Inside, firefighters discovered the fire was centered in an enclosed attic area and had spread to the roof supports. Flames were isolated to the affected area and then extinguished.
Backup to Westport firefighters was provided by fire crews from Wilton, Norwalk and Fairfield, both at the fire scene and covering the town’s fire stations. Westport EMS personnel and police also were dispatched to provide assistance.
No injuries were reported to firefighters or occupants of the house, according to the report.
