WESTPORT — A New Britain teenager is charged with stealing an unlocked car on Harbor Road last April and illegally using credit cards left in the vehicle.

Jariel Agron, 19, of New Britain, was arrested Aug. 10 on charges of sixth-degree larceny, third-degree identity theft, payment card theft/illegal transfer/fraud/forgery, illegal use of a payment card, receipt of money, goods or services obtained by illegal use of a credit card and criminal impersonation.

Theft of a 2014 Audi from Harbor Road, left unlocked overnight with keys and credit cards inside, was reported to police April 22, according to the report.

Two days later, police said, the car was involved in a crash while being chased by police in Westchester, N.Y., and two suspects were taken into custody.

During the investigation into the car and credit card theft, Westport police detectives contacted two businesses in Waterbury where illegal use of the stolen credit cards was reported.

Investigators identified Agron as a suspect after comparing video surveillance footage from the Waterbury businesses, which allegedly showed him using the stolen credit cards, with his booking photo taken by New York police after the crash of the stolen Audi, according to the report.

A warrant for Agron’s arrest was issued, and he was taken into custody Aug. 10 by New Britain police. He was transported back to town by Westport police and formally charged.

He was released after posting $20,000 bond and was arraigned on the charges Aug. 18 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
