WESTPORT — The Waterbury youth charged with fleeing into a local neighborhood Sunday after he and two accomplices crashed a stolen BMW on the Merritt Parkway faces new charges for stealing a Mercedes from a Westport home in July, police said.

Keon Webster, 18, has been charged by Westport police with second-degree burglary, motor vehicle larceny, evading responsibility (hit and run) and conspiracy to commit larceny of a motor vehicle.

The new charges have been filed in connection the July 14 theft of a Mercedes from a residence off Cross Highway.

The incident, recorded by surveillance cameras, took place about 3:50 p.m. July 14 when suspects — one identified by police as Webster — approached the residence in a gray BMW and then stole a white 2019 Mercedes Benz, left unlocked in the home’s open garage, police said. Both cars then sped from the scene.

Using the surveillance footage as well as information shared with other law-enforcement agencies, police identified Webster as a suspect and issued a warrant for his arrest.

Webster wound up in police custody Sunday afternoon after being nabbed on Kimberly Drive following a crash on the Merritt Parkway northbound near the Clinton Avenue overpass.

After the collision, Webster and two other suspects fled the scene on foot and ran into nearby neighborhoods. They were accused of stealing a BMW in Greenwich and fleeing north on the parkway, according to State Police.

Webster was caught during a search of the Clinton Avenue area carried out by Westport, State and Norwalk police, assisted by drones and K-9 units.

The two other suspects eluded the police search.

Webster suffered minor injuries in the crash, and was taken to Norwalk Hospital for treatment after he was taken into custody.

He was charged by State Police for his role in the Sunday incident with larceny of a motor vehicle, interfering with a police officer, second-degree reckless endangerment, driving without a license and failure to drive in the proper lane.

Released after posting $75,000 bond, Webster is scheduled to appear Sept. 18 on the Westport charges at state Superior Court in Stamford.
