WESTPORT — A 36-year-old man, who believed he was chatting online with a 14-year-old boy, has been arrested after police said YouTubers filmed the man’s attempted rendezvous with the “teen” in a local parking lot.
Paul Sastrum, of Stratford — who is listed on the state’s sex offender registry — was charged Dec. 28 with trying to entice/induce/coerce a minor with a computer in connection with the incident, which police said took place last year.
The charge was filed, according to the police report, after investigators were notified last Feb. 10 about a YouTube video of a meeting between four people in a Post Road East parking lot.
Three of the people allegedly had been talking online with Sastrum, according to the report, posing as a 14-year-old boy
Sastrum, acting on that impression, allegedly made “graphic sexual comments,” according to the three other individuals, and then arranged to meet with the “teen,” police said.
Once Sastrum arrived at the agreed meeting place, the YouTubers began recording the encounter, which prompted Sastrum to leave, but his vehicle’s license plate number was recorded as he departed.
Police investigators used the license plate information to identify Sastrum as the suspect, and were issued a warrant for his arrest.
Sastrum was taken into custody Dec. 28, held on $250,000 bond and arraigned that day at state Superior Court in Stamford.
