Man in ‘Hypnotic’ State Faces Drug, DUI Charges

Jose Gonzalez Jr.

A Hartford man was arrested last week for driving under the influence after an incident on the Sherwood Island Connector last spring.

Jose Gonzalez Jr., 42, faces charges of possession of a controlled substance and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol in connection with the incident.

According to police, an officer on patrol last May 30 about 6:30 p.m. when he noticed what appeared to be a disabled car in the northbound lane of the Sherwood Island Connector. As the officer approached, the car moved ahead slowly before coming to a full stop.

The driver, identified as Gonzalez, appeared to be in a “hypnotic” state, according to the report, causing the officer to suspect he might be impaired by either drugs or alcohol.

Gonzalez was taken to a hospital for treatment.

A plastic bag containing a substance believed to be an illegal drug was in plain view in the vehicle, police said.

Police were later granted a warrant to obtain Gonzalez’s blood test results from the hospital, and according to the report, “showed the presence of an illegal drug.”

Based on the toxicology report, as well as the evidence seized from the car, a warrant for Gonzalez’s arrest was issued. He was taken into custody Oct. 12 by Hartford police, and turned over to Westport authorities.

Gonzalez was released after posting a $10,000 bond and was scheduled to be arraigned on the charges Oct. 21 at state Superior Court in Stamford.

Woman Charged with Giving False ID in Traffic Incident

Kellie Jones

A Waterbury woman faces several charges, criminal impersonation of another person, in connection with a traffic incident nearly two years ago.

Kellie Jones, 30, was charged last week with interfering with an officer, operating an unregistered vehicle and operating a motor vehicle with her license under suspension, in addition to the impersonation charge.

Police said the charges stem from a traffic stop here on Nov. 10, 2019, when Jones was cited for operating an unregistered vehicle.

But new information, according to report, prompted police to further investigate the incident and determine that Jones had given a false name to the officer who made the stop.

Jones was taken into custody Oct. 10 from Naugatuck police and arrested on the Westport charges.

She was released after posting $1,000 bond and was scheduled to be arraigned Oct. 21 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
