WESTPORT — A 31-year-old man, who police said vandalized cars parked at the Saugatuck Railroad Station, apparently attempting to break in, was arrested last week.

Gaspard Nicolas, of Bridgeport, was charged July 5 with second-degree criminal mischief in connection with the incident.

An officer was dispatched to the rail depot about 10 a.m. July 5 to investigate a report that a man was damaging parked vehicles as he walked through the lot.

The officer spotted a man matching the reported description, who was pulling on vehicle doors. When the suspect was approached for questioning, police said he walked away, according to the report.

After the suspect — identified by police as Nicolas — eventually was stopped, he was taken into custody for damaging six vehicles in the parking lot, police said.

Evidence included broken windshield wipers and damaged sideview mirrors, police said.

Nicolas was held on $2,000 bond and taken for arraignment July 6 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
