WESTPORT — A Massachusetts man was charged last week with stealing items from a locker at the Westport Weston Family YMCA more than five years ago.
Edward Capasso, 57, of Fitchburg, Mass., was charged March 4 with payment card theft, second-degree identity theft and fourth-degree larceny.
Police began investigating a report, received Sept. 25, 2019, that “valuables” had been stolen from a locker at the YMCA on Allen Raymond Lane.
The theft occurred, the complainant told police, when someone broke into a locker that had been locked. Credit cards that were stolen were subsequently used in Norwalk, police were told.
Investigators used recordings of video surveillance and information shared with other law-enforcement agencies to identify Edward Capasso as the suspect, according to the report.
A warrant for Capasso’s arrest was issued and on March 4 he turned himself in at Police Department headquarters.
He was released after posting $15,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned April 4 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
