WESTPORT — A local man who allegedly assaulted a Birchwood Country Club employee has been arrested after police said he later tried to contact the victim despite being warned not to, according to the report.
Walter Francis, 58, of Westport, was charged July 23 with third-degree assault, disorderly conduct and tampering with a witness.
On June 3, a worker at the country club complained to police about being shoved to the ground while stacking menus.
The employee did not report any injuries, police said, but felt “threatened and scared” by the unidentified assailant.
Police investigating the complaint, using interviews and video-surveillance footage, were able to identify the suspect as Walter Francis, who had pushed the employee and “laughed about it,” according to the report.
While the investigation was ongoing, police said that Francis was warned not to contact the employee or their family.
However, police said, Francis and a relative on two occasions attempted to contact the complainant despite the warning.
A warrant for the arrest of Francis was issued, and he turned himself in July 23 at Police Department headquarters. He was charged and later released after posting $75,000 bond. He is scheduled to be arraigned Aug. 7 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
