Oak Ridge Park, a private road intersecting with Imperial Avenue, is where the body of Jennifer Lindstrom was found Thursday morning in a rented home at 3 Oak Ridge Park, located several homes down the street from the intersection.

WESTPORT — While authorities await results of Friday’s autopsy on the body of the woman found dead at the bottom of a staircase in her Oak Ridge Park home, evidence from the investigation into her death so far indicates it was probably an accident, police say.

The autopsy results will be a key factor in determining the cause of Jennifer Lindstrom’s death, but evidence “thus far does not support anything other than an accident,” police spokesman Lt. Eric Woods said Friday night.

Preliminary findings of the autopsy performed at the office of the State’s Chief Medical Examiner in Farmington are expected next week, Woods said, although results of toxicology tests usually aren’t available for six to eight weeks. The toxicology report could indicate whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident.

Lindstrom, 56, a mother of two who lived alone at 3 Oak Ridge Park, was found “unresponsive” at the bottom of a staircase leading to the basement by a housekeeper who arrived at the residence about 11 a.m. Thursday, police said.

The discovery prompted an hours-long investigation at the scene Thursday by Westport police, assisted by the State Police Western District Major Crime Squad. Investigators were at the scene until about 12:45 a.m. Friday.

Pending results of Lindstrom’s autopsy, the investigation into what police called her “untimely” death is continuing.

Lindstrom had been involved in several incidents over the last few years that prompted police action. Most recently, she was charged with third-degree assault for allegedly biting a person during a disturbance in the Walgreen’s parking lot on Post Road East last December.

The house at 3 Oak Ridge Park is a 1948 Cape, one of the original homes in the neighborhood that haven’t been replaced by multi-million-dollar houses. A local real estate site states that it rents for $4,000 a month.
