WESTPORT — A Waterbury man, accused of stealing money from a local business last month, reportedly also stole the security camera that had already recorded him committing the offense, police said.

Dean Henton, 58, was charged with third-degree criminal mischief and sixth-degree larceny in connection with the incident.

Police on Oct. 19 began an investigation at Kai Yoga, 877 Post Road East, where the theft of a security camera was initially reported.

After reviewing surveillance footage previously recorded by the stolen camera, according to the report, the complainant told police a man had entered the business, stole money and then removed the camera.

Investigators, using the surveillance footage and information shared by other law-enforcement agencies, identified Dean Henton as the suspected intruder.

A warrant for Henton’s arrest was issued, and he was charged Nov. 14 while he was appearing at state Superior Court in Stamford.

Bond was set at $175,000 and he was arraigned on the Westport charges later that day.
