WESTPORT — A Hartford man, who fled from officers investigating an attempted motor vehicle theft in the Wilton Road area earlier this week, was taken into custody after a foot chase, police said.

Michael Orozco-Gonzalez, 28, was charged June 2 with interfering with an officer.

Police were dispatched about 5:30 a.m. June 2 to investigate a report that someone had tried to steal a motor vehicle on Wilton Terrace.

At the same time, police received a report that a “suspicious” person, spotted by home surveillance cameras in Partrick Road yards, appeared to be trying to break into vehicles.

A man emerging from the driveway of a Partrick Road home ran into nearby woods after spotting officers sent to the scene, police said.

The man, taken into custody after being chased by officers on foot, was identified by police as Michael Orozco-Gonzalez.

At the time of Orozco-Gonzalez’s arrest, police “were unable to connect him to any other crimes in the area,” according to the report.

He was released after posting $1,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned June 27 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
